I truly believe that most people already know everything they need to know about being healthy.
They know if they eat a triple bacon cheeseburger it's not health food.
They know that having a gym membership and never setting foot in the place is not exercising.
They know if they can't zip up their jeans that they need to lose some weight.
They know that burning the candle at both ends and finally snapping the darn candle in two out of frustration--is not managing their stress.
So if everyone knows so much, why are we as a nation getting fatter, more sedentary and more stressed out?
My Dad, who passed away unexpectedly a little over a year ago, was a prime example of this. He subscribed to virtually every health newsletter and magazine there was. He had a bookshelf full of books on reversing diabetes, not having a second heart attack, healthy cooking, vegetarian cooking, Dr. Weil and losing weight and diets galore. He had notepads full of healthy recipes he jotted down from everywhere.
Dad knew he needed to take action, yet most of the newsletters and magazines ended up in a pile collecting dust, the books were barely opened and few healthy creations were cooked. Again, there's a difference between knowing what you should do and actually making it happen.
And that's where Wellness Coaching comes in. It's having an expert guide there to coach you on how to get from Point A where you know what you should do, and have been struggling with taking action on what you should do, to Point B where you get unstuck, take action and ultimately succeed.
Regrettably, while I had lots of nutritional and fitness education and knowledge, as well as my own personal success in overcoming my weight struggles and maintaining a nearly 50 pound weight loss, I didn't have the coaching skills at the time to help my Dad take action when it would have counted.
But I knew that coaching is the missing link for so many people, and I wanted to be in a position to know how to help whoever wants it to avoid a life of unnecessary disease and disability. So that's why I invested my time and money getting certified as a Health and Wellness Coach by the top organizations in the field--Wellcoaches, which is endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine, and ACE (The Amercian Council on Exercise).
When you couple that with my passion for helping others live their healthiest and happiest lives, it's a recipe--a healthy recipe--for your success.
